We gather, we record, and we publish, with the Global South at the centre.
Many important stories in commerce are not coming from the usual centres of power.
For too long, the cultural and economic forces shaping what people buy, trust, and value — forces built in the Global South — have been treated as footnotes in a story written elsewhere.
We started Subject Matter Labs to change that.
And in an age where AI can produce content at infinite scale, our conviction has only sharpened: the stories that matter most require human judgment, cultural fluency, and the kind of editorial courage that algorithms cannot replicate.
That is what we are here to protect.
Subject Matter Labs operates across four distinct properties.
I. Custodians of Crafts
Our Podcast spotlights the intersection of heritage, business, and innovation across the craft and fashion ecosystem.
We seek out the founders, makers, and thinkers — particularly from the Global South — who are keeping cultural crafts alive and commercially relevant in the age of mass production and AI.
These are the conversations mainstream fashion media is not having.
II. Subject Matter
The front door of Subject Matter Labs.
Our flagsip bi-monthly newsletter about the cultural forces reshaping global commerce — and the businesses, founders, and movements driving them.
We write about what mainstream business media misses: the consumer shifts, brand strategies, and economic stories emerging from the world's youngest, fastest-growing markets.

III. The Labs.
Stories move the world.
Subject Matter IRL is the heartbeat of Subject Matter Labs—a Paris gathering building the future of brand strategy in complex markets. We bring together marketers, founders, and cultural strategists who believe marketing requires cultural intelligence, creative vision grounded in data, and honest collaborative thinking. In beautiful spaces, over wine, we're creating the conversations that reshape how brands are built.
In an age where AI generates content, we gather to remember: humans create culture, and culture writes the stories that ultimately move the world.
IV. Advisory
Most agencies will tell you what worked elsewhere and apply it to your market.
We do the opposite.
Subject Matter Labs Advisory works with brands, founders, and creative enterprises who are building in, or into, multicultural and rapidly evolving markets. We bring editorial intelligence, cultural fluency, and strategic clarity to the questions that matter: how you position, how you enter, how you tell your story without losing what makes it true.
Our clients tend to come to us when the standard playbook has stopped working, or when they know their market well enough to know that it never applied in the first place.
